Former Apologist Slams Jackie Alnor and Roger Oakland
|

|
John Morehead, a man who used to consider himself an apologist but now
thinks defending the faith is unchristian, has become a defender for the
Emerging Church. In that capacity, he has slammed apologists who do
defend the faith. In an article on his blog, he has singled out Jackie
Alnor, Roger Oakland, Albert Mohler, and the entire Southern Baptist
denomination for speaking the truth in love about the dangers of this new
trend in Churchianity.
The style of apologetics Morehead used to engage in was one of defending anything that has been accepted throughout church history as orthodox. I call guys like him Creedal Apologists. They don't defend the faith or the Bible but just give intellectual responses to other intellectual objections to doctrine and practice. If it's been practiced by people calling themselves Christian somewhere in history, it's okay for today's professors of Christianity. And as such, the Emerging Church passes muster with his ilk. He accuses Jackie Alnor of being anti-Catholic -- and he is correct -- Mrs. Alnor is against any doctrines or traditions of Rome that nullify the Word of God. Doctrines of a Sacramental system of salvation, papal authority, transubstantiation, purgatory, etc., nullify the doctrine of grace and should be opposed. That can only mean that Morehead is pro-Catholic and gives his approval of these false teachings since, after all, they've been taught for centuries. Below is the portion of his article that blasts truth tellers. A link to the whole article is included. And below that is a little something about Morehead by Morehead himself. It says a lot. He is a guy who is interested in religion, horror, and science fiction. They're all hobbies to him. ♥♥♥ Understanding Before Critique: Let's Really Become Conversant with the Emerging Church Sunday, November 13, 2005
[Click here to go to Morehead's blog] I recently became aware of a post in an Internet group of the countercult community. A post had been made sharing links with resources critical of the evangelical emerging church movement, and it stated that if one wants to see the effects of the emerging church on someone from the countercult to see my Blog. I contacted the person making this post through personal email to respond to problems with the post, and to share concerns about countercult (and some apologetic) critiques of the emerging church. A few of these thoughts are included here. ...I am no longer a part of the evangelical countercult community. While I have worked within this community in years past, I no longer utilize the paradigm and methodologies of this community, neither do I identify with them as a member of their community. .. ...discerning and missional Christians should be very concerned by some of the criticism of the emerging church in the evangelical world. One aspect of it has been simplistic in its analysis, resulting in condemnation of the movement to the point of labeling it "a threat to the gospel," as seen in denunciations by Albert Mohler [link to: http://www.albertmohler.com/commentary_read.php?cdate=2005-06-29] , and the Southern Baptists [link to: http://www.bpnews.net/bpnews.asp?ID=20420 ]. The assessment and indictment by some in the countercult community [link to: http://www.understandthetimes.org/commentary/c29.shtml ] is even more disturbing, including the simplistic and critical aspects of the previously mentioned critiques, as well as an unfortunate anti-Catholic [link to: http://www.apostasyalert.org/ ] element....And check back with this Blog in December. Ryan has agreed to an electronic interview on the subject of emerging cultures, emerging church, and emerging spiritualities that will be published in installments here in the near future. # posted by John W.
